Golf is a big recovery tool for me. It’s uneven terrain,
there are sand traps, so when I got my prosthetic, it tested me physically and
mentally—it takes my mind off the negative thoughts.
It’s fun playing in pants because you’ll go with some guys
you don’t know and after a few holes, I’ll need to adjust the leg and they do a
double take.
He dismissed them politely, and then just destroyed some of
the best golfers on the tour in practice. He’s got intensity and a drive that
shames most people.
He does it so that other wounded servicemen and women can
see that it’s not over when you get hurt. There are other ways for them to
contribute, succeed or grow.
